TdF #19 Last gasp victory

July 27, 2014

The closer the race comes to the finish line in Paris, the more desperate that the teams without any success become. Tinko has adjusted well and achieved plenty, quite a consolation after missing out on the biggest prize.

Garmin had little to show for the last 18 stages. They had set up the team for young Talansky so when he departed injured they had to think of other goals. Garmin has always been good for stage wins but they did not select many of their more reliable winners. Bauer gave it a really good shot the other day but was unlucky.

Today, Slagter played the first hand when he jumped clear of his break companions. Then Navadauskas escaped the peloton, caught up with his team mate before powering on to a fine stage win. He was probably helped by more crashes caused by more terrible weather. This time heavy rain resulted in slippy roads, and the usual argy bargy in the bunch resulted in many of them hitting the deck. Sagan and co were left licking their wounds and dreaming of a better day.

The GC riders had a day off. Bardet was caught up in the above crash but as it was close to the finish he did not lose time.
