TdF #14: Escape at last

July 18, 2013

After two weeks of the GC riders and sprinters competing hard for stage wins, a break finally was allowed to win the stage. The break had a fight to establish their lead as the teams that missed out worked for a long time to try and bring them back. Eventually the peleton relaxed and the large group raced clear.

The infighting started early with Millar and the first to have a strong attack. He was caught and it was Sojasun’s Simon who looked like he might pinch the stage with an exciting break that lasted over 10km. But he was caught only 1km from the line. Trentin sprinted from a long way back but his tremendous speed was enough to just pip Albasini on the line. Another win for Omega and his team mates were ecstatic.
