TdF #3: A wonderful road to ride

July 2, 2013

The competition was certainly interesting but what amazing roads to ride. I dream of such roads, perfect terrain for cycling and beautiful views. The peleton seemed to be enjoying the view as well, as the pace was not a fierce as it was yesterday. Plenty of action with a break going at the start as usual, but it was caught on the main climb of the day. Rolland might have looked daft in his many polka dots, but the climbing legs were working fine and he picked up more points for the competition. Hopefully someone tells him to put on normal shorts for the next few stages though.

A small break looked like it might repeat yesterday’s escape but this time the peleton timed the chase better. The pure sprinters had been dropped much earlier in the stage so it was left to the best of the group of about 90 that finished together. Gerrans used his lead out man better than Sagan and beat him by a few tyre widths. A very good win for the Aussie and a relief for the team that should do better.

All my favourites finished in the leading group and there was no change at the top of the GC. Sagan already has a handy lead in the points jersey and might wear green all the way to Paris.
