TdF Stage 15: Samatan – Pau

July 28, 2012

The stage is one of the last where a break looked likely to win, so most of the teams were very keen to put a rider up front. Astana was particularly keen to chase the initial break attempts. This meant that the winning break took a long time to establish. The frantic pace and chaotic nature in the peleton lasted for at least two hours. Finally, five broke clear and Nicki Sörensen managed to catch them after chasing for about 20km. Once the break was decided and clear everyone relaxed and the peleton cruised home 12 minutes after the stage winner.

Fedrigo won the stage but outsprinting Vandevelde. The French are having a good tour having picked up several stage wins already. Another of the small wildcard teams winning a stage. Six more did not finish the stage as the peleton is down to 156 riders.
