TdF Stage 13 Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux – Le Cap d’Agde

July 28, 2012

Again, the profile would have indicated that the GC contenders had little to gain by attacking on this stage but Evans went hard on the short but very steep climb only 20km from the finish. A show of bravado from last year’s winner who probably does not have the legs for this year’s race? It was easily matched by Wiggins and the rest of the top ten in the GC.

The attack did get rid of some of the sprinters. Cav lost the peleton and his chance of a stage win. The fairy tale of Morkov winning from a long way out after going solo from the break was not to be, he was swamped on the last climb. Wiggins tried to lead out Boassen Hagen but somehow big Greipel climbed with the leaders and out-sprinted everyone for another superb stage win. He beat Sagan by a wheel. Sagan has an increasingly commanding lead in the green jersey.
