TdF Stage 5 Rouen St Quentin

July 7, 2012

Another bunch sprint, another win for the big German Greipel. There was also another big crash near the finish which took out Sagan and Farrar. Amazing Greipel was involved in the crash but managed to stay upright and close out the sprint a few minutes later. Cav and Goss didn’t do well in the sprint, mis-timing their efforts and were slow at the end.

Today’s break had 4 from the minor teams and they almost made it. Ghyselinck from Cofidis had a great dig from about 1km out and was caught just before the line.

Another quiet day for the GC favourites. We were treated to a team trial of sorts towards the end when we had Sky on one side of the road and BMC on the other. Sky looked like they were much more organised today after a few occasions in the last few stages when Wiggins was left isolated or too far back and getting caught up in crashes. Lotto, RNT and Liquigas have been doing a lot of work for their sprinters. Will that affect their strength in the mountains?
